We chart this workshop by identifying for ourselves the things in our lives that are good and nourishing, the things that are not, and the things we want to change. Participants are handed a lifestyle guide that covers diet, exercise, sleep, smoking, drugs and alcohol and keeping a routine. Participants use the guide to prompt them to identify what they may want to change. We then discuss what we have learnt from our own experience about ways to make lasting changes to our lives. The workshop moves onto some strategies that have been identified by personal change experts using the metaphor of the elephant as our emotional minds, the rider as our rational minds and the pathway as our environment. Participants then consider the stories of Ben and Aroha and work through their difficulties by making suggestions based on the strategies for change that have been identified in the workshop. Participants then consider how they can use these change strategies in our own lives.
